Membership Information

To receive the full range of benefits from the Professional Communication Society, consider joining as a full IEEE member or an Affiliate member. As a full IEEE member, you receive an extensive benefits package in addition to the PCS membership. Affiliate members become members of just the Professional Communication Society—perfect for professionals whose broad technical interests are in areas other than those of the IEEE.

PCS/ProComm Member Benefits

PCS members receive the following:

• IEEE Transactions on Professional Communication — a quarterly refereed journal
• Lower rate for the annual International Professional Communication Conference (ProComm)
• Newsletters, access to the Resource Center (once launched), and more!

IEEE Membership

IEEE members receive an extensive benefits package. Membership in the Professional Communication Society is open to all IEEE members.

The IEEE membership application can be used to apply for full Institute membership as well as Professional Communication Society membership (see instructions below for completing your membership application).

Senior Membership Status

We would love to see more of our colleagues in the Professional Communication Society applying for this honor. As a Senior Member, you will be among very few members of IEEE to be awarded this honor.  You will receive a plaque and a commendation and will be presented with increased leadership opportunities.

• • A candidate shall be an engineer, scientist, educator, technical executive or originator in IEEE-designated fields [this includes technical communication].
  • Candidates shall have been in professional practice for at least ten years.
  • Candidates shall have shown significant performance over a period of at least five of those years.
  • In addition, candidates for Senior Member grade must supply three references from current IEEE members holding the grade of Fellow, Senior Member, or Honorary Member.

PCS/ProComm Affiliates

Professionals whose broad technical interests are in areas other than those of the IEEE but which are focused on the activities of our Society may join as Affiliates. The Affiliate receives only the services of the Society rather than those of the IEEE as a whole. For example, Affiliates do not receive IEEE Spectrum magazine and are not eligible to participate in the IEEE Financial Advantage Program. Affiliates do receive the IEEE Transactions on Professional Communication and the ProComm Newsletter.

Another advantage to Affiliates is the discount on our annual International Professional Communication Conference (ProComm). Check the annual ProComm Conference website, as rates will necessarily change due to different site costs.

How to Join ProComm 

First, go to the IEEE home page and click on “Join IEEE” to join as a new member. Follow the appropriate prompts.
