The Case Study Initiative is transforming undergraduate engineering education. The Case Study Writer will help introduce entrepreneurial engineering concepts to students by capturing interesting stories about real engineering situations. The stories that the Case Study Writer creates must be engaging while capturing important technical points to be used in the classroom. The Case Study Writer will work collaboratively with the managing editor and faculty collaborators to produce a suite of classroom materials including discussion questions, photos and videos, assignments, and homework problems. As a member of the Kern Entrepreneurial Engineering Network (KEEN), Rose-Hulman is well-connected to faculty across the country ready to collaborate on case studies.

Responsibilities: Works closely and communicates regularly with the managing editor on developing at least 25 case studies per year; secures and partners with faculty and industry collaborators to develop content for case studies and classroom materials; travels often to industry sites to investigate stories and work with faculty collaborators across the country; captures the entrepreneurial spirit of the Case Study Initiative by contributing to strategy discussions around case study content; balances multiple deadlines, secures approvals, and maintains quality control; writes and adheres to project production schedules; communicates routinely and thoroughly with managing editor about work progress.

Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in English, journalism, public relations, communications, or related field required—though a science, engineering, or mathematics degree with writing experience would be appropriate. Demonstrated mastery of storytelling concepts like character, plot, dialogue, along with clarity regarding technical information required. Post-secondary teaching experience preferred. Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to clearly and persuasively communicate concepts and ideas; and proficiency with computer applications common in a communications setting such as Word, Excel, and Outlook are expected.
