IEEE ProComm YP Representative Position Description

The IEEE ProComm Young Professionals (YP) Representative will serve as ProComm’s liaison with young professionals under the direction of the IEEE ProComm President.  The YP Rep should be within 10 years of graduating with an undergraduate degree in technical and professional communication or a relevant engineering field. The YP Rep can be a graduate student or early career faculty member in technical and professional communication, a practitioner in technical and professional communication, or a practicing engineer with a special interest in technical and professional communication. The YP Rep will initiate, develop and coordinate the strategic plan, programs and activities in the area of YP and attend at least two ProComm Board of Governors (BoG) Meetings held each year to report on the progress and status of the same.

Specific responsibilities include coordinating with other ProComm YP volunteers and ProComm staff to define, delegate, and monitor YP-related work and to implement and advertise all programs and activities, as well as work with the ProComm President and VP for Membership to help recruit individuals (ProComm Members or non-Members) to help coordinate outreach and events for ProComm YPs.  Also, the YP Rep will act as the primary ProComm “volunteer” contact person for ProComm and Board of Governors members, other society/council members and IEEE staff for requests, questions, issues, etc., concerning YP.

The programs, activities and responsibilities of the YP Committee include the following:

  • Monitoring the status of all IEEE and ProComm YP programs and activities, including the reporting of various statistics and finances and year-to-year trends
  • Developing programs and activities to help grow and maintain ProComm YP membership. 
  • Developing programs and activities to help provide students/YP members with career assistance, ie job fairs
  • Managing the holding of Student/YP meetings with IEEE Student Branches
  • Recruiting students/YP members to prepare personal articles for the ProComm Newsletter
  • Helping to determine the data to be displayed and respective format of the YP-related information on the ProComm Web-Site
