Our society is excited to launch a discussion series to help you stay connected with like-minded professionals as we all navigate significant changes to our professional lives. The “ProComm Fireside Chat” series will be an informal opportunity to learn from other ProComm members as we address timely topics. We plan to survey you for topics that you find interesting, so that we reflect the diversity of our membership–engineers, practitioners, and educators—in the topics of the series.

Our inaugural event, Strategies for Teaching Success in the New Normal, is an opportunity for you to reflect on challenges, discuss new strategies, and learn from the experiences of fellow educators as we adapt to online, hybrid or physically constrained new teaching environments. Please take a break from your busy back to school schedule to join us for this informal chat on Thursday October 1st, 3:00pm EST

This first ProComm Fireside Chat will be facilitated by Darina Slattery (Vice-President of ProComm) and Alan Chong (Digital Content Creator of ProComm and Board member). Come share strategies that you have found successful as you have adapted to your unique teaching situation. Please email a summary of your successful strategies to Sean Moseley at moseley@rose-hulman.eduso we can collect and organize your great ideas prior to the chat. Specific areas of interest are:

  • Alternatives to in-person office hours
  • Methods for asynchronous discussion groups
  • Logistics of facilitating student group project work
  • Ideas for non-standard or unusual assessment strategies

RSVP not required, but the event is intended for PCS members only.
