Thanks to all of the conference organizers and attendees for a great ProComm 2016 at the University of Texas in Austin, a fabulous city and conference venue!

Bob Metcalfe kicked off the conference with a enlightening talk on entrepreneurship communication, outlining the various ways in which our words and actions can carry ourselves and our commitment to our ideas. His talk provided us with useful, not often voiced perspectives on the impacts of our communication strategies. img_0082
Bruce Maylath, winner of the The Ronald S. Blicq Award for Distinction in Technical Communication Education, followed that up by challenging the “cult of monolingualism,” in which he argued for the pivotal role of language in discrimination, giving conference goers much to think about. img_0084
img_0093 We also had a great panel on the art of the pitch, run by Clay Spinuzzi and Greg Pouge, which culminated in a panel of Austin entrepreneurs sharing their opinions on this key communication genre. It was one of numerous sessions analyzing the genre’s rhetorical structure and establishing strategies for effective pitch making.

And we celebrated our award winners, below, on their achievements for 2016.
