The Graduate Centre for Academic Communication (GCAC) within the University of Toronto’s School of Graduate Studies invites applications for a full-time three-year contractually limited term appointment (CLTA), with a possible two-year renewal, specializing in teaching academic writing/speaking to graduate students. The appointment will be at the rank of Assistant Professor, Teaching Stream with an expected start date of January 1, 2022.

Applicants must have earned a PhD degree in Applied Linguistics, Rhetoric and Composition, Second-Language Pedagogy, English, or a related area by the time of appointment, or shortly thereafter with a demonstrated record of excellence in teaching. Applicants must also have a demonstrated record of pedagogical excellence and innovation combined with at least two years of teaching experience at the university level, evidence of effectiveness both as a sole curricular designer and instructor and as a collaborative member of a teaching team, a passion for teaching writing/speaking, and a demonstrated interest in teaching-related scholarly activities. Previous experience working with Master’s and doctoral students will be an asset. 

The ideal candidate will be a highly skilled and versatile teacher with demonstrated expertise and experience in the following: 1) teaching academic writing/speaking to graduate students; 2) designing curriculum for advanced academic communication; 3) supporting multilingual students (English for Academic Purposes; 4) working with students in diverse disciplines; and 5) engagement with scholarship in Writing Studies.
